The dedication of one dedicated fan is truly remarkable. Two months after the release of Pokémon Pokopia, a game that allows players to build their own Pokémon world, someone has managed to create a nearly complete, mostly 1:1 replica of the Kanto region. This is an impressive feat, considering the complexity of the task. The creator, u/starguy13, has been documenting their progress on Reddit, showcasing their meticulous attention to detail. They've used the blank-slate Palette Town map to recreate the map from the original Pokémon games as accurately as possible, and the results are genuinely impressive.
However, the journey hasn't been without its challenges. u/starguy13 admits to not following the old adage of 'measure twice, cut once,' resulting in some discrepancies. They started their build in an unideal spot, leading to a few issues. Despite this, they've managed to recreate the map with impressive accuracy, including some cool detail work. While most buildings don't have 1:1 interiors, a few do, such as Professor Oak's Lab and Mt. Moon, which can be walked through just like in the games. This level of detail is impressive, but u/starguy13 decided not to replicate places like Diglet Cave, opting for a regular tunnel instead.
One interesting aspect of this project is the bonus room on the western side of the map. With this extra space, u/starguy13 plans to create Route 29, connecting Victory Road and the Pokémon League to Johto, and New Bark Town. However, there's no room for the rest of Johto, which is a shame. The dedication and creativity of this fan are truly inspiring, and it's no surprise that it took two months to build such an ambitious project. It's a testament to the passion of the Pokémon community and the endless possibilities that fan-made projects can offer.
